Polar Antarctica

Antarctica Holidays and Expedition Cruises

Antarctica is often described as the last great wilderness on earth. It is a truly wild place, and incredibly beautiful. This land of mountains and glaciers is home to rich wildlife including penguins, seals and whales. There is a rich history of exploration and human endeavour. Expedition cruises will see you exploring the white continent on daily landings with optional camping, kayaking and snow-shoeing. It is unlikely any other destination will leave as lasting an impression as Antarctica.

All our cruises take in the Antarctic Peninsula, and many will also make one or more stops on the South Shetlands. You'll see more penguins than you care to count, seals, birds and likely whales too on a visit to these areas. If you particularly wish to see Emperor Penguins, or are especially fond of whales then you may wish to consider a cruise that reaches the Weddell Sea. Longer cruises exist that take in the Falklands and South Georgia too.

All these cruises start from the southern tip of Argentina - the town of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego. Then follows a journey out through the Beagle Channel, past Cape Horn and into the frequently rough waters of the Drake Passage. About a day and a half later, you arrive at Antarctica and spend several days making landings, taking tours in zodiacs and on some cruises can take part in adventurous activities such as snow-shoeing, kayaking and camping. There are often onboard lectures from expert guides during the crossings of the Drake.
